Chief Minister visits Balakote, BG; consoles with bereaved family

Hand over Rs 25 lac ex gratia cheques, Rs 3 lacs each for education expenses of 2 surviving daughters

Poonch, Mar 19 (KNS): Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti today visited Balakote, Bimber Gali to console with the family who lost five of its members during cross border shelling yesterday.
The Chief Minister handed over cheques of Rs. 25 lacs as ex gratia to the next of kin of the deceased.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh; Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction & Disaster Management, Javed Mustafa Mir; legislators, Shah Muhammad Tantray, Choudhary Qamar and Yashpal Sharma accompanied the Chief Minister.
Mehbooba Mufti also handed over cheques of Rs. Three lacs each for meeting the educational expenses of the two daughters of the family who too were injured in yesterday’s shelling incident. She also announced bearing of all expenses coming on the treatment of these two surviving family members. She also assured that the brother of the deceased breadwinner of the family would be given job by the Government to sustain the family.
The Chief Minister also announced construction of 15 community bunkers in Balakote area besides stationing of one bunker vehicle for the help of the local people. Besides, she also announced strengthening of health facilities including a trauma hospital, road connectivity and other facilities in the area.
Chief Secretary, B B Vyas; Principal Secretary, Home, R K Goyal; Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Rohit Kansal; Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Hemant Sharma; IGP, Jammu zone, Dr. SDS Jamwal; senior officers of Army and Poonch district administration also accompanied the Chief Minister during her visit. Srinagar: Several locals including women were allegedly beaten by government forces soon after vehicle of 55 Rashtriya rifles was targeted on Watchi Darbagh road on Friday.
Talking to media, locals alleged that an hour after blast took place in the area, forces barged into many residential houses and beat up family members and ransacked other property as well.
“They even didn’t spare women and thrashed several men from nearby area of the blast site,” the locals told.  “Four among us were beaten severely that they have been hospitalized,” the locals alleged.

Srinagar: Former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Friday said that putting of Army and Airforce on high alert is about something very different and not about article 35A or delimitation.
Mr. Abdullah wrote on his Twitter handle, “What “on going situation” in Kashmir would require the army AND the Air Force to be put on alert? This isn’t about 35A or delimitation. This sort of alert, if actually issued, would be about something very different.”
