Thousands turn up for funeral of slain militant Sabzar Sofi; associates offer gun salute

Reports said that at least six militants, including Zeenat ul Islam, appeared in the funeral of Sofi and offered him a gun salute.

Thousands of mourners on Wednesday took part in funeral prayers of slain militant Sabzar Sofi while his associates, including top commander Zeenat ul Islam, offered him a gun salute at his native Sangam area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir.
 Reportssaid that at least six militants, including Zeenat ul Islam, appeared in the funeral of Sofi and offered him a gun salute.
An eye witness said that the militants raised pro-freedom and pro-Pakistan slogans during the funeral which is being held in an open field, just few hundred metres on Srinagar-Jammu highway.
Sofi was killed along with an associate Asif Ahmad Shergujri in an overnight gunfight with the government forces in Nowgam area on the outskirts of Srinagar.
Massive clashes erupted in Sangam early today after the news of death of Sofi reached there. Several protesters were injured in the clashes.
