Four arrested over thrashing of Kashmiris in Delhi; victims say it was hate crime

Four persons have been arrested by Delhi police for thrashing five Kashmiris in southeast Delhi on Thursday night, a media report said.
According to a report in The Indian Express, the police said the “fight was over feeding stray dogs.”

The report said that based on the complaint, police has filed a case under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 341 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).On Saturday, a video went viral which showed that three women were surrounded and beaten up by a group of people.The video of the incident shows some people, including women, arguing with and assaulting the victims. Woman injured as windstorm damages houses, uproots trees in Baramulla

Reports said that a house belonging to Farooq Ahmad Hajam was damaged by gusty winds in Syed Kareem Baramulla. His wife sustained injuries and was shifted to district hospital Baramulla for treatmentWindstorm coupled with rains on Saturday toppled trees and damaged houses in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, leaving a woman injured. They said that trees was toppled and standing crops damaged due to winds and rains in Baramulla and Sopore towns. A local from Soopore said that several vehicles were damaged after trees fell on them. The windstorm also damaged rooftops of houses and electric transmission lines in the area. Mobile Internet service was suspended in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Friday following a militant attack on a police guard in Wadwan village.
An official said that Internet service was shut “as a precautionary measure” to prevent spreading of rumours. A constable Shamim Ahmad was killed after militants looking to snatch weapons attacked a police guard in Wadwan. Following the attack, clashes erupted between youth and the forces after the former pelted army with stones. Reports said that a youth sustained bullet injury after army men fired to disperse the protesters. Source

Srinagar, May 07 (KNB): As the bi-annual offices open in Jammu and Kashmir’s summer capital, unusual and surprising scenes were witnessed in Srinagar Civil Secretariat complex following Pujaris and Hindu religious priests were called in to hold a Puja session inside the cabin of a minister.

Eyewitnesses told Kashmir News Bureau (KNB), that excited with the protocol of ministry, the newly appointed Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Minister and Dr Divendar Kumar Manyal on the eve of opening of bi-annual Darbar Move offices in Srinagar held a 2-hours-long Puja session inside his secretariat office chamber while on other hand the only mosque in the complex continuously remain locked since two decades for unknown reasons.

Srinagar, May 07 (K24X7 ): Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik have announced that shutdown against the Shopian killings will continue tomorrow, i.e May 08 (Tuesday).In a statement issued on Monday, the Joint Resistance Leadership condemned the restrictions imposed on resistance leaders and the detentions of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik. Asif Ahmad Mir (17), son of Ghulam Mohammad, a resident of Rahomo village of Pulwama district, had sustained a critical bullet wound during the clashes. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where from he was referred to SMHS hospital in critical condition where he succumbed later, they said.
