🌨 Fresh snowfall breaks cold wave cycle in Kashmir

🔴KASHMIR24X7: Fresh snowfall lashed most parts of the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday as the minimum temperatures rose above the freezing point after nearly a month, weather officials said.

Severe cold wave sweeping the Valley was broken as the minimum temperatures rose above the freezing point, an India Meteorological Department (IMD) official said.

Fresh snowfall occurred everywhere in the Valley except Srinagar city which received light rain with traces of snow.

Higher reaches including Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Pir Panchal mountain range and other places received moderate snowfall on Wednesday.

The Srinagar-Jammu Highway was closed due to snowfall and slippery road conditions in Bannihal sector.

Valley's perennial water reservoirs get replenished by snowfall during the ongoing 40-day-long period of harsh winter cold called the 'Chillai Kalan'. These water reservoirs sustain Kashmir's rivers, streams, lakes and springs during the summer months.

Bandipora-Gurez Road here on today was closed after Valley received fresh snowfall.

Snowfall in Gurez and Dawar areas of Bandipora district has led to closure of Bandipora-Gurez road.
 Reports reaching that Dawar, Tulial and Baktore areas of Gurez received fresh snowfall. Reports said that Razdan Pass connecting Gurez Valley with rest of the state has also received snowfall. DC Bandipora Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said that, the traffic on Gurez-Bandipora road closed for the vehicular traffic following snowfall. He said that 3 machines deployed for clearance, and men and machinery are on the job. Essential services reviewed for District. He said that Gurez valley received 8-10 inches feet of snow till 9AM. Dr Shahid said that, one snow cutter is working at Kanzalwan Bagtore road, Two at Dawar while one machine has been deployed in Tulail area. He said all internal routes of Gurez zone have been cleared. Power water supply and other essential commodities are still working.
